Genetic Diseases

Breeding healthy cats is our top priority therefore the health of our cats is very important for us.
We only breed healthy cats and we do specific examinations prior to breeding.
British cats are generally healthy cats with little susceptibility to disease.
However, there are some health problems that may occur but not often:
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD):
It is the most common inherited cause of kidney failure in cats.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM):
It is a condition characterized by thickening of the heart muscle resulting in a reduced volume within the ventricles (major chambers of the heart), thus reducing the volume of blood that the heart can pump with each contraction. Affected animal is at risk of developing congestive heart failure and occasionally sudden death.
All our cats are PKD tested (genetically and by ultrasound) and HCM tested every 2 years (ultrasound). The results are always mentioned in the pedigree of the kittens and we are ok to share copies of the tests with future families.
Beside PKD and HCM we also test our cats of FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) and FeLV(feline leukemia virus)
